Mr. Weasley: Art Teacher
SCENE 1
(Chris in the library reading a book – Mike comes in)
Marian: “Hey man, what’s up? Oh my god! For what do you need all these books?”
Chris: “Hellooooo? I have to find some information for my project in biology… You have to start writing it too, remember?”
Marian: “Oh, don’t start again with this project! Calm down! We have two whole months until we have to hand it in!!”
Chris: “Yeah, but.. Helloooo?! We have to write about 60 pages except for the experiment we have to do. Two months just aren’t enough to finish all this!”
Marian: “Do you remember the project in physics last year? We had again two months to finish the 60 pages, and we both did it in less than four weeks!”
Chris: “Yes, but this one is much more difficult You always have to find new information”
Marian: “Come on Chris, relax a bit!!!!!!! There are so many other important things in life than this project, and generally school… Anyway, will you come this evening to the cafeteria? The others will be at a football match, and I don’t want to be alone…”
Chris: "I don’t know we have history for tomorrow and so many other lessons to do…"
Marian: “Ohhhh, come on, enough with these lessons. Remind me when was the last time you came to the cafeteria with us cause I don’t remember..?”
Chris: “Well I just don’t have time.”
Marian: ”Really, then tell me how can I have time to go out with my friends..??”
Chris: “You never do all of your homework. Have you ever studied for history??”
Marian: “Bullshit.. Who cares about history?? You are the only person I know who studies history!!
Chris: “Well ok I will come with you to the cafeteria just to show you that I don’t study all the time.”
Marian: “Fine, today you will have a great evening without books. Hmmmm what about 8 o’clock?”
Chris: “Ok, see you there…”
Marian: “Very nice.. Ohhhh, have you seen the book Che Guevara’s life? Because I want to find his biography for the school newspaper.”
Chris: “Aisle 5. There you can find the biography of many well-known people.”
Marian: “You know the library by heart...”
(Marian searching for the book)
Marian: “Ohh, there it is. I will write the best article ever, hehe. Ok, I have to leave now see you in the classroom.”
Chris: “Ok, bye. Oh god, I need the names of all the stupid human bones.”
(Marian laughs and leaves)
SCENE 2
(In the classroom)
Marian: “Oh, I hate ancient Greek and the teacher too.”
The teacher: “Stop talking… Marian, tell me the translation of part 2 in page 34.”
Marian: “Ehmm… I’m sorry, I didn’t have enough time to study.”
The teacher: “Oh, the same things again... How many times do I have to tell you that you have to study very hard?”
Marian: “Yeah, I’m sorry, but, you know I don’t care so much about ancient Greek.”
The teacher: “If you don’t know your roots then you don’t know your language. And if you don’t know your language you are not a Greek person.”
Marian: “Yes, I agree, but I’m not gonna speak with Aristotle or Socrates and apart from this the way we are taught ancient Greek in school makes us hate this subject. You know very well that the Greek school system sucks.”
The teacher: “Be careful the way you speak, please. The system is not the problem. The real problem is that you, students don’t study as much as it is necessary. For example look at Chris he always studies! This is what students should be like!”
Marian (ironically): “Yeah ok…”
(the art teacher comes into the classroom)
The art teacher: “Sorry that I disturb your lesson, but can I have Marian for a little? We want to discuss something about the school play.”
The teacher: “Oh again this play. I can’t stop the lesson every time. But okay Marian you can go.”
(the lights turn off)
SCENE 3
(Marian calls Chris at his house)
Marian: “Hey, Chris. Can you bring me the CD I asked you to burn for me?”
Chris: “Ohhh, shit I forgot. Sorry Marian but we had so many things to do for school and I didn’t even think about it.
Marian (with aggravation): “Okay, never mind. Anyway see you at the cafeteria okay?”
Chris: “Oh, Marian! I just wanted to say that-“
Marian: “You don’t want to come! Am I right?”
Chris: “No, it’s just… Oh, forget it..”
Marian: “Okay… So, see you at the cafeteria… Bye!”
Chris: “Alright… Bye!”
SCENE 4
(At the cafeteria. Marian is already there).
Chris: “Hey, Marian. Sorry, I’m late..”
Marian: “Hey. Never mind. Where is Mary?”
Chris: “Ohh, didn’t I tell you? We broke up…”
Marian: “Really? Why? You were such a nice couple…”
Chris: “Because we both didn’t have enough time to meet. I have to study very hard now because of the exams…”
Marian: “Are you kidding? You must be stupid to break up because of this!! You are not in the third class of high school so you don’t need to study so much. You are overdoing it!! Poor Mary…”
Chris: “STOP NOW!! You always blame me because I study hard!! Look at you. You always have arguments with the teachers because you don’t study. The only things you are interested in are boys, the school newspaper, theater plays, and things that you are not going to use in your whole life!!!”
Marian: “Of course these things I do are useful. And, of course I study, I just don’t study the subjects, I consider useless. At least I know how to live my life, not like you, locked in your room studying all the time. You have changed so much, you are not the Chris I used to know.”
Chris: “Nothing has changed to me, I just haven’t so much time I used to.”
Marian: “Then you have to organize your time better…”
Chris: “Stop pretending to know everything. It’s not easy to do everything on time. You always have time because you never study.”
Marian: “That’s not true, you know that I study! I just do so many other things… And I always have time!”
Chris: “If you have such big problem with me then stop spending time with me. This is who I am and I will not change for you.”
Marian: “I didn’t say that! It’s just that you don’t want to hang around with us anymore and you don’t even care about us!!”
Chris (angrily): “I’m not going to stay here and listen to your bad insults! I’m leaving!”
(he stands up and goes out)
Marian (sadly): “If you need help to find the old Chris just call me…”
SCENE 5
(the next day in the class room, in school. The bell has already rang for the lesson)
The art teacher: “Good morning kids!”
The kids: “Good morning Mr. Weasley!”
Mr. Weasley: “So, today we’re going to discuss some of Picasso’s masterpieces. Marian, can you tell us something about Picasso?”
Marian: “I think you should ask Chris, he knows every thing better than all the others. Am I right, Chris?”
Chris: “Just shut up, Marian, ok?”
Mr. Weasley: “Marian, Chris? What’s going on with you two? I have never seen you so altercated.”
Marian: “Ask Chris. As I said before he knows everything better.”
Mr. Weasley: “Ok, Marian, that’s enough. Chris, do you want to share this problem with us?”
Chris: “Some people think that I have changed and I don’t have time for my friends. The fact is that I just want to be ready for the things I am going to confront in my future. And this is not a mistake.”
Marian: “Isn’t it a mistake if you forget your friends because of that? Because of your future? As Shakespeare said we know what we are, but not what we may be. And therefore my opinion is to live the every moment, and especially with our friends.”
Mr. Weasley: “Very nice speech, Marian!”
Chris: “The next years will be very difficult for our generation. There’s no time for what you said, Marian.”
Marian: “If there’s no time for friendship, what’s the reason of existing?”
Mr. Weasley: “I think that’s a quite interesting discussion we are having here. Well, my dear kids, we are living in a very difficult era and what Chris said was right. You must have many qualifications to survive. Nowadays, unfortunately, only the strong and smart can survive. Only the ones with money have an easy life, and you can only have money if you are smart and sometimes lucky. How many people have you seen earn money without working for that, because they are lucky?”
Marian: “I agree, but what about friendsh-?”
Mr. Weasley: “Wait Marian. I haven’t finished yet. You asked about friendship.. Of course, that’s very important. I can ensure you that family and friends are the most important things in life. And, of course, love. A person without these three things in life is empty. You have to find the time to accommodate these things.”
Chris: “I think your right… I overdid it a bit.”
(the bell rings for break)
Mr. Weasley: “Chris, I’m very proud of you that you can admit your mistakes. That’s very difficult for some people. Marian, please, be more patient next time. You see, everything can be solved with a dialogue. I hope everything we said today will stay in your mind forever. Break is over… I have to leave now. See you tomorrow.”
(Mr. Weasley leaves the classroom)
Marian: “Well… Friends again?”
Chris: “Oh, come here!”
(they hug friendly)
Marian: “Today is the concert from our favorite band… Do you want to go with me and rock a bit?”
Chris: “I would love to!!”
Marian: “I think I can see the old Chris again… Oh! Did I tell you?”
Chris: “What?”
Marian: “I spoke with Mary… She wants to see you.”
(Chris smiles)
Chris: “I were so stupid that I had almost destroyed our friendship.”
(the bell rings for the next lesson)
Marian: “ Do you want to cut school?”
(Chris is looking at her weirdly)
Marian: “I am just kidding!”
(they both walk out of the classroom)

(They both are looking at some pictures)
Eveline: Wow, like what we know from the movies! You are so lucky! And how was life there?
Melina: I had everything I wanted and I really enjoyed this.
Eveline: How strange you decided to come here. You had everything there!
Melina: That’s true but I told you only the good side of this.
Eveline: What do you mean? Is there a bad side too?
Melina: Yes. But I don’t know. Do you really want to hear it?
Eveline: Why are you asking me, I am your best friend I want to know your problems to help you.
Melina: I’m afraid you can’t.
Eveline: Come on tell me what happened to you!
Melina: Well, not to me, actually.
Eveline: Which means that…?
Melina: David…
Eveline: Your uncle’s son?
Melina: Yes. He was almost the same age as us.
Eveline: What do you mean he “was”? Is he dead now?
Melina: No! ! ! He is alive. And he lived in the same house with us.
Eveline: And his mother?
Melina: She died when David was eleven years old.
Eveline: I’m sorry.
Melina: He is a good guy. We became friends.
Eveline: And..?
Melina: I could tell him every secret I had and he did the same.
Eveline: So, what happened to him?
Melina: He, he had an accident with his car.
Eveline: Is he all right?
Melina: No, he is not. He injured his head then we thought he ‘s ok but the doctors said that he would be paralyzed all his life.
Eveline: Poor David. I’m so sorry! Where is he now?
Melina: He is with my mother at our house he has no one else to care about him. I had no one else only my mother and him.
Eveline: But you had friends.
Melina: No, I didn’t, American children didn’t want to have friends from Greece.
Eveline: So you had David.
Melina: At first. After two years I started making new friends like Violet. She was an actress.
Eveline: You had a friend, who was a star?
Melina: Almost. She is a really good girl, but she’s not a star.
Eveline: Other friends?
Melina: Just another friend. Lita.
Eveline: So you had a friend…
Melina: Yes, Lita was a poor girl not like Violet, but Lita’s father is a book publisher.
Eveline: I guess you don’t want to hear about me now!
Melina: I want, but I can’t imagine what could happen to you here!
Eveline: Look, I don’t feel comfortable talking about this.
Melina: Hey. You are speaking to me now. I want to know your problems as you said before.
Eveline: Well, when you left for America I was alone , I didn’t have any friends except you.
Melina: I’m sorry I couldn’t stay here anymore. I just …
Eveline: No it’s not your fault. Just the other children didn’t want to be my friends , the only children who wanted me were these guys from high school.
Melina: I can’t believe you, these guys were dangerous.
Eveline: I know I know. I just wanted to be a member of a group to have friends, I couldn’t imagine what could happen next.
Melina: Tell me everything. What have you done?
Eveline: Well I suppose I’m not proud of this.
Eveline: Ok, as I told you before I got some new friends so I started doing things they used to do. Melina: Like what?
Eveline: In the beginning I started going out and I come home late at night.
Melina: And what about your parents? They always had the perfect daughter.
Eveline: I didn’t want to hurt them but I did it. We used to fight every night until I left home.
Melina: What are you talking about? You left your own home? Where do you live now?
Eveline: I came back to my parents’ home a year ago after all.
Melina: What else? I thought the fact that you left your home was bad enough for you.
Eveline: I did things which were worst than this!
Melina: You are scaring me!
Eveline: Sorry, I was scared too.
Melina: Tell me what happened next.
Eveline: Well I started drinking alcohol.
Melina: You? I can’t believe you did it. You hated drinking.
Eveline: I hated smoking too, but I started it.
Melina: You did not! How could you do this?
Eveline: I just wanted to be like the other people of the group Mike, Tim, Linda, Malvin and Sam most of all.
Melina: Hey, you liked him.
Eveline: Perhaps, he seemed to be so different. He was the leader of the young group which I wanted to join
Melina: But you knew , you shouldn’t.
Eveline: I was just 13. I could easily follow them and do what they used to do.
Melina: I don’t even want to imagine the rest.
Eveline: Neither do I, now.
Melina: I hope so.
Eveline: I started going to new places. We used to go there with the guys.
I became a member soon. I can say we really had fun. We did everything I wanted to do and I couldn’t. We had no limits.
Melina: No limits? I can imagine the results.
Eveline: You can imagine nothing. Nothing as I couldn’t. But now I know.
Melina: I’m sorry, I thought…
Eveline: I mean, I wanted to live my life as I wanted, and I didn’t want anyone to tell me what’s right and what’s wrong. I wanted to be free.
Melina: And you were free with them?
Eveline: At least that’s what I am feeling.
Melina: But you did what they told you to do!
Eveline: I know it now.
Melina: I guess this is the happy end?
Eveline: Actually I wish it was but it’s not. I haven’t told you everything yet.
Melina: Is there something else?
Eveline: I started taking drugs.
Melina: Are you mad, what were you thinking of? I can’t believe I’m speaking with you. You’re not Eveline I used to know .
Eveline: You said you wanted to hear me.
Melina: I want! Well… when I saw you I noticed that you skin is pale and you really looked so thin but I didn’t want to tell you this, I couldn’t imagine.
Eveline: So many guys here do the same things.
Melina: Because they are stupid.
Eveline: Oh, thank you.
Melina: I didn’t mean you.
Eveline: At first I was ok but after a short time I became addicted
Melina: What? I suppose you did everything Sam told you to do?
Eveline: No I just had fun and finally I had friends, why should I change it?
Melina: I don’t know, when I left Greece at the age of 10 I couldn’t imagine you would start destroying yourself. It’s my fault I wish I hadn’t left.
Eveline: It’s ok, everything is under control now, but I should tell you I went to a clinic.
Melina: That was the best thing you had to do.
Eveline: I thank my parents every day. I would have been dead now without them.
Melina: Don’t worry, I’ll be there for you now. Nothing bad will happen again.
Eveline: Thank you. Thank God you’re here now, I’ve missed you so much. But you didn’t tell me what happened to David next.
Melina: David, oh he is paralyzed as I told you. He is in America in my house.
Eveline: Can he change it now? Maybe if he finds better treatment in another country…
Melina: Well, we don’t know. I don’t think so…
Eveline: But he is rich, isn’t he? He can do the best.
Melina: Yes, his parents had a lot of money. I suppose he did everything he could.
Eveline: Maybe we can help him.
Melina: I don’t think we can. It’s not a matter of money.
Eveline: I thought when you have money you can do anything. I guess it’s wrong.
Melina: My mobile phone is ringing. It’s David!
David , I was thinking of you know. What? I can’t hear you, what?
Sorry… (She’s getting out of the café)
(After a minute she comes back.)
Eveline: What happened? What did he say?
Melina: Good news!
Eveline: Tell me!
Melina: A doctor in America told him that if he sees a doctor in Australia he might walk again! Well the operation is very expensive, but it’s ok. I hope he will be fine.
Eveline: So after all we’re back here at our old neighborhood together again.
Melina: Friends for ever.
Eveline: Promise me you won’t leave again.
Melina: Well, I have to go to see David after the operation.
Eveline: Oh except that.
Melina: OK , I promise , well finish high school together.
Eveline: You’re absolutely right.
Melina: I’m always absolutely right!
(They’re laughing)

Speaker 1: But things are different now.
Speaker 2: Her best friend became a junky.

Scene 3
Speaker 1: As you see Melina has returned to her country.
Speaker 2: And her friends.
Speaker 1: But things are different now.
Speaker 2: Her best friend became a junky.
Speaker 1: And she could almost have died.
Speaker 2: But everything is under control now.
Speaker 1: Best friends got together again.
Speaker 2: As in the past.
Speaker 1: They have fun together now.
Speaker 2: Shopping, Cinema, out for coffee.
Speaker 1: They are free!!
Speaker 2: Their dream is to become a good doctor each.
Speaker 1: Melina wants to help other people like David.
Speaker 2: And Eveline wants to help people involved in drugs.
Speaker 1: Drug addicts.
Speaker 2: We’re talking about junkies now.
Speaker 1: Sam is ill.
Speaker 2: He is in hospital to stay away from drugs.
Speaker 1: Violet is a star now at music and acting.
Speaker 2: Even she’s only 20 she is a candidate for an Oscar.
Speaker 1: And the gang group?
Speaker 2: Each one is living his life alone now.
Speaker 1: But real friends are there when you need them.
Speaker 2: Like the two girls.
Speaker 1: Melina is very happy she saw her friend and her neighbours again.
Speaker 2: Home sweet home.
Speaker 1: She doesn’t want to leave again, but she promised that she and Eveline would travel around the world for holidays and she did it as she said.
Speaker 2: They went to America to see David.
Speaker 1: David’s operation was successful.
Speaker 2: He can walk now.
Speaker 1: He is a writer.
Speaker 2: He has written 3 books.
Speaker 1: And his first book was the best I think.
Speaker 2: Definitely.
Speaker 1: He wrote it for Melina and their life before and after her life in America.
Speaker 2: With the title.
Speaker 1: “My real life”
Speaker 2: Lita’s father published it.
Speaker 1: After this Lita and her family became rich.
Speaker 2: Because the book was a big success in America and Europe.

Our first workshop in Ioannina

We'll meet again in a project meeting (workshop) in Ioannina, Greece from April 3rd to 10th, 2008. Students and teachers from all participating countries and schools will have common rehearsals and work together on the plays selected to be presented to the audience of this city of NW Greece. These plays are: "The desk of Rock" from the Greek school, "Sparkling stars*" from the German school, "My school years" from the Lithuanian school and "Friends in Izmir" from the Turkish school. The performance of the plays is arranged to take held at the DI.PE.TH.E. of Ioannina theatre, the Municipal Peripheral Theatre of Ioannina, on Tuesday, April 8th, 2008 at 8 p.m. Our workshop also includes an Ancient theatre Archaeological itinerary to the Ancient Theatre of Dodoni, the Ancient Nicopolis or Necromanteion and the picturesque sea resort of Parga. Students from 4 different countries of Europe will have the chance to meet each other and develop friendship that can last after their school years. Meeting each other is a way to overcome xenophobia and promote mutual respect and peace between peoples. So our project unites students and teachers from different cultures in a common scope, to express themselves through theatre. You'll have our news after the project meeting. Just wish us "success":-)...

Laura: Yes, but I told you that I would never want to see you again. And you know that I hate lies! And you lied to me with the “Simon” thing. I loved him!
Luisa: Yes, I know! But you know that I love you. And we were best friends. You can´t give up our friendship! It´s important to me to say that to you.
Laura: You want to tell me this?
Luisa: Yes!
