CHRISTMAS EVE

CHRISTMAS EVE

Grandmother: Maryte
Mother: Jurate
Father: Kazys
Sister: Elena(5years old)
Brother: Antanas(7years old)

Scene one

Elena and Antanas are in the corner of the stage and talking in whisper. There is a fir tree in the corner of the room. There is a large table in the middle of the stage. It is the living room.

Antanas:-You know Christmas is coming? What about our presents? Have you sent a letter to Father Christmas?

Elena:- Oh yes, I did. And what about you? Have you ever seen Father Christmas coming at night?

Antanas:- You know, let’s wait till midnight and see all the wonders happening at night. I don’t know how Father Christmas can come to the house when the door is locked? I would like to watch him coming into the room and putting his presents near my bed or under the fir- tree.

Elena:-Oh, yes. And I would like to hear our cat talking. Have you ever heard that animals start talking at Christmas night? I would like to talk to our Murka.

Antanas:
-Yes, we could hide and wait till all these wonders start. Let’s hide somewhere after the Christmas Eve. Don’t go to sleep and sit here in the room and watch Father Christmas coming and our pets talking to each other.

Elena:
-Oh yes. Maybe we could see something happening here.

Christmas Eve. The music of “Silent night” is played. Kazys and Antanas are decorating the fir tree. Jurate and Elena are laying the table. Jurate brings some hay.

Elena:
- Mom, what is this hay for?

Jurate answers:
- We are going to draw lots. Who gets the longest straw, will live happily ever after. And who gets a short straw, will have troubles.

Elena asks:
- Mmm… Now I’ll know.

Jurate and Elena spread the hay on the table and cover it with a table-cloth and start putting the dishes on the table. They bring mushrooms, kuchukai, poppy-milk, herring, jelly made with potato flour, salad, fried fish, beans, vegetable, bread and fruit. Kazys and Antanas come to help them.

Antanas says:
- Well… Now that we have decorated the Christmas tree we can sit at the table.

Jurate says:
- No, you can’t! We have to wait for the oldest family member. Now let us lay the table.

Everybody takes a plate for themselves. But Jurate puts another one.

Elena asks:
- What is it for?

Jurate explains:
-For unexpected guest, the additional plate we usually put for a relative who died last year or a stranger. Just think about people who have no home, no family, no food. This is a plate for them.

The doorbell rings. The children shout:
- Grandmother!

Maryte, grandmother comes in and shouts happily.

Maryte
- Hello kids. How are you?

The children answer:
- We are fine.

She takes off her warm coat and joins the family. Everybody hugs and kisses grandmother. They start talking.

Maryte:
-It’s so cold and snowy outside. Always dreaming about white Christmas. I missed you so much! I love Christmas Eve! Do you know that on Christmas Eve, at midnight all the animals talk? But when you hear them, you can’t tell it to other people…

Antanas:
- I will go listen to them… Why can’t I tell about it to other people?

Maryte says:
- If you do that, you’ll die the next morning.

Elena:
- Ah, it’s so scary!

Then she looks at her brother:
- I think we don’t need to do that, because we could tell it to someone…

Maryte ends this scary discussion:
- Ah, how wonderful those twelve dishes look!

Amazed the children ask:
- Grandma, how do you know, that there are twelve dishes on the table?

Maryte says:
- Your mother does it every year, because it’s an old custom. There are twelve dishes because there are twelve months in a year.

Everyone sits at the table.

Elena asks:
- Why are there six plates, not five?

Jurate explains:
- One plate is for a lost spirit or a stranger.

Elena says:
- Oh…

Antanas says:
- Why are there straws under the cloth? We aren’t sheep to eat it.

Maryte explains:
- We need to draw them. Remember: if the straw is long - life will be long, if the straw is short - life will be short. If the straw is curled up – there will be many changes in your life.

At first all family start saying prayers. Then grandmother takes kaledaitis and everybody takes a piece of it from her hands.
Everybody draws a straw, looks at the other straws and then puts them near the plates. Just angry Antanas twisted his straw and threw it under the table.

Surprised Kazys asks him:
- Why did you do that?

Antanas said with tears in his eyes:
- My straw was short and curled up.

Maryte calms him down cleaning his tears up:
- Don’t cry, it’s just a magic, that can never happen and for the curling, the changes could be good too.

The boy calms down, takes the same straw out of the table cloth and puts it on the table like the others.

Then Jurate asks Maryte:
- Do you know more magic?

Maryte answers:
- Yes, I do. But let’s do it after the meal.

The kids want to put food in their plates but father stops them.

Father:
- Wait, you can’t eat now! You must say your prayers first.

Everybody stand up, put their palms together, put their heads down for a few seconds. Then they all sit down.

Antanas asks:
- Can we eat now?

Kazys says:
- Now we can eat. Just remember, you must taste every twelve dishes.

The kids whisper:
- Why?! We don’t want to!

Jurate says:
- You need to do it because that is done for family peaceful life.

Kids again unhappy say:
- Ok, ok…

When everyone had tasted all the twelve dishes.

Grandma says:
- Now we can do some magic. I just need a few things.

Kazys says:
- Like what?

Maryte says:
- A spoon, a bucket of water, two candles and some matches. Kids, can you bring those things?

Happy kids say:
- Wait!

Scene two

The kids leave the room and after a while, Antanas comes with a spoon, a bucket and Elena comes with two candles and the matches. They put everything on the table in front of Maryte. Maryte lights one candle and puts it into the spoon. Then she puts the spoon on the other candle. When the candle burns and there’s only hot wax, Maryte with one strong swing puts it in the water. Then they all wait until the wax becomes hard. When it hardens, Maryte takes it out and looks at its shadow.

Elena asks:
- Why are you not looking at the wax but at its shadow?

Maryte explains it to her:
- When you look at the shadow, you can see the future.

Then everyone looks at the shadow.

Jurate says:
- Oh, look! I see a dishwasher!

Then Kazys says:
- And look, there’s a new car!

Then Antanas says:
- And there’s a computer!

Then Elena says:
- And it’s portable!

Everyone laughs and Maryte says:
- See how many things you have seen! I wish you that everything would come true!

Jurate says:
- Thank you for your magic. The future seems to be nice for our family. But why don’t you look at the shadow?

Maryte says in a laughter:
- Because I don’t need anything. We could just meet more often!

The children say:
- Yes, we want it too.
-
Grandma kisses everybody. Father calls the taxi and she leaves them.

Grandma leaving:
- Leave everything on the table for the souls. They come at night to try your meals.
-
Kazys tells the children:
- Go to your bedroom – it’s very late.

Maryte says:
- Good night. We’ll meet next morning.

The children say:
- Good night!

Elena and Antanas go to their room. Grandma goes home. The parents go to the living room to pack presents.

Scene three

Kazys says:
- Do you think the children will be happy?
-
Jurate says:
- Yes, really happy. They were waiting for the presents very much.

While the parents are packing the presents, in the children’s room, Elena and Antanas are talking about Christmas.

Antanas says:
- Elena, do you know there is no Father Christmas?

Elena says:
- There is!

Antanas says:
- No.

Elena says:
- Prove it.

Antanas says:
- I will.

Elena asks:
- How?

Antanas says:
- Come with me.

Elena asks:
- Where are we going?

Antanas says:
- You’ll see.

The children get out of bed and go to the other room. The parents hear them.

Kazys says:
- Jurate, I think that Antanas told about Father Christmas to Elena.

Jurate says:
- Why do you think so?

Kazys says:
- Listen, they are coming. Let’s hide the presents.

They hide the presents and the children run into the room.

Elena asks:
- Antanas, what did you want to show me?

Antanas says:
- They are packing the presents! Or not...

Jurate says:
- Children, you know Father Christmas brings you presents.

Elena asks:
- What are you doing here?

Jurate says:
- We are sitting and talking.

Kazys says:
- Yes, we are sitting and waiting for Father Christmas.

Elena says:
- Wake me up when he comes.

Kazys says:
- Ok, Elena, but now go to sleep, both of you.

Jurate says:
- And don’t walk barefooted. You don’t want to get ill, do you?

Elena says:
- Ok, mum.

The children go out of the room. The parents hear their voices from the corridor.

Elena says in a happy voice:
- I told you that there is Father Christmas.

Antanas says:
- One day you will understand there is no .

Elena says:
- There is!

Antanas says:
- Forget it.

The parents smile at each other. After a few minutes

Kazys says:
- Do you think they are sleeping?

Jurate says:
- I will go and look.

After a few minutes she comes back.

Kazys asks:
- Are they sleeping?

Jurate answers:
- They are lying in beds.

Kazys asks:
- Did they say anything?

Jurate answers:
- Antanas is almost asleep and Elena asked if Father Christmas has already come.

Kazys says:
- It’s strange, that when we were children we believed in Father Christmas.

Jurate says:
- Yes. But it was fun to listen to stories and believe in magic.

Then they take the presents out of their bags and finish packing them. Jurate packs the last one.

Jurate:
- It’s finally finished.

Kazys says:
- It’s so late. Let’s go to bed.

Jurate says:
- Yes. Presents’ packing takes so much time.

Kazys says:
- But the children will be happy.

Jurate says:
- They really like presents.

Kazys says:
- And Elena likes when Father Christmas packs them so well.

Scene four

Kazys smiles. Jurate smiles too. They go to sleep and the children are sleeping in their room dreaming beautiful Christmas dreams. In the morning mum wakes up first. She goes to the kitchen to make Christmas breakfast. When she makes the meal she brings the dishes to the living room. Then Jurate hears sounds in the corridor. When she goes out of the room, she sees Elena. Jurate closes the door.

Jurate asks Elena:
- Why aren’t you sleeping? It’s so early.

Elena answers:
- I want to see my presents.

Elena slips away and tries to open the doors of the living room, but Jurate is holding the handle.

Elena asks:
- Mum, why don’t you let me in ?

Jurate answers:
- Elena, wait for everybody to come.

Elena says in a disappointed voice:
- Ok.

Elena goes to her room. Jurate locks the door and goes to her room too. After a minute Elena goes out of her room and goes to the living room, but sees that the door is locked.

Elena shouts:
- Mum!

Jurate goes out of her room. Jurate asks:
- What?

Elena asks:
- Why did you lock the door?

Jurate says:
- You said you wouldn’t go there.

Elena said:
- I just wanted to have a look.

Jurate says:
- It’ll be a surprise.

Elena says:
- Ok.

Elena goes to her room. She goes to bed and falls asleep. After some time Antanas and Kazys wake up. When Elena wakes up, she finds her family awake.

Elena asks:
- Can we go unpack our presents now?

Kazys asks:
- Maybe we should eat breakfast first and then we could look at our presents.

The children shout:
- No!

Kazys asks:
- Don’t you want to eat?

Antanas says:
- Yes, but we want to see our presents first.

Jurate says:
- Ok. You can go and maybe you will find your presents there.

The children go to the living- room to the fir- tree and the parents go after them. Elena unpacks her present.

Elena:
- Mum, dad, look! I got a teddybear! It’s so big and pretty… I’ll call it Teddy.

Antanas unpacks his present and finds an airplane.

Antanas says:
- Look what I got! Cool! I wanted this!

Kazys says:
- Now that you’ve unpacked your presents, we can go and have our breakfast.

Everyone goes to eat. Elena puts a big spoon of salad in her plate.

Elena:
- Why didn’t you wake me up when Father Christmas came?

Antanas says:
- Because there is no Father Christmas.

Elena shouts:
- There is!

Mother:
- Children! We were out of the room and when we came back, there were presents under the fir tree.

The children fall in silence. It is so silent, you could hear the clock ticking in the room.

Antanas:
- Elena.

Elena asks:
- What?

Antanas says:
- Let’s try who will eat a piece of cake first.

Elena says:
- Ok. I will win.

Antanas says:
- We’ll see.

They start eating the cake. Antanas wins.

Antanas:
- See? I’ve eaten it first.

Elena says:
- I didn’t want to eat first.

Antanas says:
- You wanted to.

Elena says:
- No, I didn’t. And you ate the cake first because you’re older than me...

Antanas says:
- Yes.

Elena says:

-… and fatter.

Elena laughs.

Antanas :
- You are fat too.

Elena:
- No, I am not fat. You are the fattest kid in the world.

Kazys says:

JENNY. No. That’s all because me, if I hadn´t slapped him, he wouldn’t have run away.

MIKE. Thanks mum. I love you.

JENNY. I love you, too.

MIKE. O.K. mum what do you want to tell me?? I want to hear what you have to tell me. Tell me what you want.

JENNY. So I want to know why you ran away from me?

MIKE. But now I’m here, aren’t I.

JENNY. Yes and I’m happy about it. But I have to ask you another question now.

MIKE. Yes what’s up?

JENNY. Do you smoke joints?

MIKE. Er…. No I don’t. Why?

JENNY. Just asking.

MIKE. Ah O.K.

JENNY. And what about alcohol?

MIKE. No I don’t drink alcohol, too. Please trust me O.K.?!

JENNY. Of course I trust you because you’re my son!

MIKE. Ohhh mum I love you so much.

MIKE. I would go to school for YOU!

JENNY. You don’t go to school for me, you go to school for your future.

MIKE. Yes O.K. but I will go to school.

JENNY. But if you go to school you must work harder because you were not good at school when you went there. So you have to learn!

MIKE. Mum I will learn for school and bring home good marks.

JENNY. Tomorrow we’ll go to school together and talk to the teachers to apologize.

MIKE. O.K. Tomorrow we’ll go to school and I’ll apologize for my behaviour.

JENNY. Good idea. But now you have to go to bed.

MIKE.O.K., mum. See you tomorrow.

Home is the most beautiful place!

Home is the most beautiful place!

Characters: Tiffany, Helena, Scott, Hartmut, a man

Scene one:

Tiffany comes home. She has written an F in her English test. Her mother is in the kitchen and is cooking dinner. Tiffany bangs the test on the table.

TIFFANY: Here my shitty English test! I have an F!!! FUCK!!!

HELENA: Can you speak normally with me? I´m not your friend from the streets!!!

TIFFANY: Sorry, but I think I must repeat Year 9 and I don´t want to lose my friends! But I don´t want to study harder because studying sucks!

HELENA: That´s not my problem! It’s not my life , but if you don´t learn you will lose your friends.

TIFFANY: I’m not interested in your boring talk.

HELENA: Don’t be stupid and now go to your room, too. I can’t stand seeing you anymore!!!

TIFFANY: Yes, with pleasure.

Tiffany runs into her room and she turns on the music LOUDLY.
Helena is angry and cuts the cable.

The father Scott comes home. And Helena tells him what happened.

HELENA: Tiffany has another F in the English test.

SCOTT: WHAT???

HELENA: Yes , and we had a dispute. Then she went to her room and turned on the music. I was very angry and cut the cable. Now she is very angry with me.

SCOTT: Oh, I think that she must change the school.

HELENA: (shouts) WE CAN EAT!!!

TIFFANY: (shouts) I´m not hungry!

SCOTT: (shouts) You come and eat. We are a family and we eat together like every other family!
Tiffany comes and sits down on the chair.

SCOTT: I´ve heard that you have an F in the English-Test.

TIFFANY: Yes.

SCOTT: Did you learn for the test?

TIFFANY: Yes, a little bit, but I didn´t understand the topic.

SCOTT: And why didn’t you ask me or mum?

TIFFANY: You also can´t help me.

HELENA: We’re not as silly as you think.

TIFFANY: Sorry but I thought so.

SCOTT: Sorry but I think you must leave your school and go to another school in the west of the city.

TIFFANY: WHAT??? I won’t leave the school! I would lose all my friends!

SCOTT: It’s too late!

Tiffany begins to cry and runs to her room.

Scene 2:

She doesn’t want to leave her school and lose all her friends so during the night she gets up and packs her bag. Before she goes, she speaks with her budgie Stanley.

TIFFANY: Sorry Stanley but I can’t stay here any longer because I don’t want to lose my friends. I hate mum and dad for this. I think I’ll leave home and begin a new life!!!! But where? On the streets? I think I have nowhere else to go, don’t I?

She begins to cry again. Then she takes her bag and goes outside.

Scene 3:

Tiffany is walking around with her bag, looking for a place to stay. She sees a bridge.

TIFFANY: Hello? Is someone here? If so, please answer me.

But no one answers her. There is much trash lying under the bridge. She looks for something to sleep on. She finds an old rug. She finds a right place to lie down.
And then she falls asleep.

The lights go down and up again.

HARTMUT: Hey girl, it’s time to wake up, you must go to school!

Tiffany opens her eyes and sees Hartmut and she is frightened.

HARTMUT: You must not be scared. I’m just Hartmut and I live under the bridge, and you are lying on my bed.

He smiles.

TIFFANY: Oh sorry I didn’t know that it was your bed. But last night I didn’t know where I could sleep and then I saw this place.

Tiffany says it quietly.

HARTMUT: No problem, last night I was in the city and looked for bottles, because I needed money. I’m hungry and so I need money for a little bit of food.

TIFFANY: Oh sorry then I’ll leave you alone and go to look for a new place to live.

HARTMUT: You live on the street? Since when? Tell me your story.

Tiffany deliberates and then she sits down and tells him what happened.

TIFFANY: I had problems at school.

HARTMUT: That’s not a big enough problem to leave your home. I would be happy, if I had a family.

TIFFANY: But I had problems at school and so I had problems at home, too.
They wanted me to I leave my school and lose all my friends.

HARTMUT: But do you want to live alone on the streets? You can live with me under this bridge. Only if you want to.

TIFFANY: Oh thanks, then you’re not alone and I’m not alone, too.

HARTMUT: Great, can you tell me your name?

TIFFANY: Oh yes, of course my name is Tiffany, and you’re Hartmut, aren’t you?

HARTMUT: Oh Tiffany, what a wonderful name. Oh yes and my name is Hartmut .
Can you tell me how long you have lived on the street?

TIFFANY: Since yesterday, and you? And thanks, but I hate my name, and your name is funny.

HARTMUT: I have lived on the street for 2 years. You must hate your name and I must hate my name. Come let’s go and look for food.

TIFFANY: Okay.

They leave together to look for food.

Scene 4:

At Tiffany’s home at the same time.

HELENA: Tiffany, come downstairs, it´s time to eat, and you must go to school.

She waits and waits, but she hears no noise.

HELENA: Scott?? Can you look for Tiffany? She must go to school and hasn’t come down yet.

SCOTT: Okay.

It’s quiet but then…

SCOTT: Helena? Oh my God, Tiffany, she’s not here!!

HELENA: What? Don’t make jokes, that isn’t funny.

SCOTT: Come upstairs and look. She isn’t here and her bed is empty. And its look like no one slept in it last night.

HELENE: I don’t believe you, because Tiffany is not so silly to run away because of school.

SCOTT: Perhaps we were so strict with her. And we didn’t believe in her and that she could learn and write good marks. I’m a bad father. I feel so bad.

HELENA: Don’t cry, Scott. Maybe she will come home today. I hope it. And Scott we’re not bad parents because we care about her and love her so much.

SCOTT : But we haven’t shown it to her and only blamed her.

HELENA: Come off it. When she was a young child we often showed her our feelings.

SCOTT : Yes of course but you know, when she was a young child but not this time.

HELENA: She will come home, I believe it, because she is my daughter.

SCOTT: I know but she’s also my daughter and I know that if my parents were so bad to me I would run way from home, too. And she doesn’t have the same character as you. She is stubborn and so I know that if she comes home, it will be in two days or so.

HELENA: Okay well wait and hope. I think we can’t do more now, but if she doesn’t come home tomorrow we will call the police.

SCOTT: Okay!

Helena begins to cry

HELENA: I miss her so much and I feel like a bad mum …

Scene 5:

Tiffany and Hartmut come back from looking for food.

TIFFANY: Oh that is terrible, why were the people so heartless and didn´t give us a little bit of money for food?

HARTMUT: Because they think we’re only buying alcohol, drugs and cigarettes with the money. You´ll get used to this, and I think they don´t want to help us. I think that they think that we’re scum.

TIFFANY: Oh but I want to buy food, and why do they think that we’re only interested in alcohol, drugs and cigarettes ?

HARTMUT : The people are silly, and you know alcohol always keeps warm in the night.

TIFFANY: Oh that’s why they think that we’re only interested in these things. Are you interested in alcohol , too?

HARTMUT : Not really, but sometimes when I have enough money I drink a little bit. But alcohol isn’t good when it´s cold because you only feel that you’re warm but in fact it’s harmful for your body.

TIFFANY: Oh I think you’re an intelligent boy.

HARTMUT: Oh thank you but I think you’re not so intelligent because you´ve left your home for nothing.

TIFFANY : You left your home, too .

HARTMUT : But I left my home for a good reason.

TIFFANY: What a reason?

HARTMUT: My mum and my dad were heavy drinkers and so I ran away from home because my parents hit me everyday and I couldn´t live there anymore and I didn´t want to go to a children’s home.

TIFFANY: Oh I’m so sorry for you.

HARTMUT: It’s okay.

They eat their meal quietly.

Scene 6:

Five months later. Hartmut has fallen ill. He is lying under a blanket.

TIFFANY: Hartmut? And I really can’t do anything for you ?

HARTMUT : (he coughs) No you really can’t do anything else for me than just looking for food or for some medicine.

TIFFANY: Okay, I will look for food and then I will look for money to buy medicine. Maybe I can go to the hospital .

HARTMUT: No don’t go to the hospital . They only think that you’re a pills addict and then
they want to keep you at the hospital and then I maybe die when you’re at the hospital.

TIFFANY: Okay, if you don´t want me to go to the hospital I won´t go. So I must go now
if you want to have some things to eat and maybe a little bit of medicine.

HARTMUT : Okay, I’ll wait here and take care!!!

TIFFANY : Okay, bye.

Scene 7:

Two hours later Tiffany comes back.

HARTMUT : Hey, have you found anything?

TIFFANY : Yes, something to eat and drink and a little bit of medicine.

HARTMUT: You’ve got so many things?

TIFFANY: Yes and I haven´t stolen anything.

HARTMUT: Why did you get so many things?

TIFFANY: An old woman with a big heart was with me in the supermarket and bought me these things .

HARTMUT : This woman is big hero.

TIFFANY: Yes, she is I talked with her for a long time.

HARTMUT: Good.

They start eating the meal and Hartmut swallows the pills.

Scene 8:

At Tiffany´s home.
A computer is on a table. Helena is sitting in front of the computer.

SCOTT : Hey Helena ,I want to talk with you.

HELENA : What is?

SCOTT : Our landlord has given us notice. We have to leave the flat.

HELENA : WHHHAAAAAAATTTTTT????

SCOTT : It´s true. We must move out.

HELENA : But what if Tiffany comes home and we aren´t here anymore?

SCOTT : I don’t know but we must look for a new flat.

HELENA : I can´t do this.

SCOTT :We must!!!

HELENA: But if we look for a new flat I want to move to another city.

SCOTT: Okay if that’s your wish, we will move to another city.

HELENA : Oh thank you, Scott, that’s why I married you.

SCOTT: Oh and that is why I married you. Have you got an idea of where you want to move?

HELANA: Oh yes I want to move to Liverpool.

SCOTT: Oh that’s a very good idea . I’ll look for flats on the internet.

HELENA : Okay I will look , too.

SCOTT: Okay then let´s go and look.

They look on the internet and soon they find some flats.

SCOTT : Helena look, here is a nice flat.

HELENA : Oh this flat will be perfect for us.

SCOTT : Ok I’ll call the landlord. Maybe we can visit the flat.

HELENA : Oh this would be perfect. Call him!

Scott dials the number.

SCOTT : Hello my Name is Scott Hanks. I´m calling you because I’ve found your flat on the internet. ….

Scene 9 :

Scott and Helena have visited the flat .

HELENA : What do you think of the flat?

SCOTT: I think the flat is good enough for us, and you?

HELENA: The flat is so beautiful.

SCOTT: Okay let’s move in.

HELENA: What about Tiffany?

SCOTT: You know about Tiffany. She won´t come home.

HELENA: She begins to cry I miss her so much!

SCOTT: (He hugs her) Me too.

HELENA : But we must move on, and so I think we must move to the new flat.

SCOTT: Ok I will call the landlady and take the flat.

Scene 10:

Under the bridge. Tiffany takes care of Hartmut, but he is very ill and Tiffany doesn’t know what she can do to help him.

TIFFANY: Oh Hartmut, I don’t know what I can do for you. You must go to the hospital !

HARTMUT : No I don’t go to the hospital, I´d rather die.

TIFFANY : No Hartmut you can’t die …

HARTMUT : Why can’t I die ?

TIFFANY : Because… What about with me?

HARTMUT: I won´t die!!! Okay?

TIFFANY : But if?

HARTMUT : Then you go back to your parents.

TIFFANY : No I can’t go back. I´m afraid of my parents.

HARTMUT: Why?

TIFFANY : Maybe they hate me because I ran away from home .

HARTMUT : No I don’t think so, they love you because you’re their child.

TIFFANY: Oh I think you’re right. But I can’t go home, maybe they will send me back to the street.

HARTMUT: Are you silly? They will be happy when you’re back home.

TIFFANY: Oh Hartmut but you can’t die.

HARTMUT: Right, but everybody must die.

TIFFANY: Hmm Okay, I’m tired come on, let’s sleep.
Scene 11:The next morning.

TIFFANY: Hartmut, wake up, today is a next beautiful morning.

Silence

TIFFANY: Hartmut , wake up now. HARTMUT??

Tiffany shake Hartmut. She wants to hear his heartbeat. But there is no heartbeat.

TIFFANY: she begins to cry. Oh no Hartmut you can’t be dead.

Tiffany wants to go home, because Hartmut told her to.

TIFFANY: Hartmut? I know you’re not here, but I think you can hear me. I´ll go back to my home for you, and for me. I’m sure my parents are happy when I come back, and me, too

Brian: Hi dad, hi Diane.

Diane & Dad: Hi Brian.

Brian shows his dad his class test.

Dad: What an E again? You are stupid.

Brian: But dad! That was a mishap.

Dad: So, you will learn the whole time now and you won’t meet your friends.

Brian: But dad!

Dad: Don’t but me.

Brian: Well, it’s ok.

Dad: I hope it is. Now, go to your room.

Scene Two:

In Brian’s room.

Diane: You are such a poor boy and very silly.

Brian: Don’t make me angry, sister.

Diane laughs.

Diane: You stink.

Brian: Shut up.

Mr. Tyler comes in.

Dad: Don’t fight, you two.

Diane: I haven’t done anything.

Dad: Brian, come here!

Brian: Why?! But Diane should come, too.

Dad: Ok, you two.

Diane: Why? I haven’t done anything.

Dad: Shut up and come here.

The two come and see him.

Dad: Who started it?

Diane: It was Brian!

Brian: But….

Dad: BRIAN!!!! That’s enough. You aren’t just silly, you are impertinent, too. You’ll study four hours every day!

Brian: Oh, dad ….

Dad: Brian! Do it or you’ll be sorry.

Brian: And Diane?!

Dad: Diane, do your homework.

Diane: That’s so stupid, dad is so strict.

Brian: …..English … maths… that’s all stupid. I hate school.

Scene Three:

Four hours later.

Brian: Dad, I’m finished.

Dad: Ok, and tomorrow you will study another 4 hours.
And that’s every day till you are good at school.

Brian: Oh, dad, that’s awful.

Dad: But it’s for your own good.

Scene Four:

In front of the house.

Diane: Hi Amy.

Amy: Hi Diane. Everything alright?

Diane: Yes it is. And…

Dad: Diane! Come in. It’s time to eat.

Diane: Oh, I must go now.. Bye.

Amy: Bye

Scene Five:

At the dinner table.

Dad: Brian. If you study every day, you’ll be better soon.

Diane: Dad. Can I meet Amy after dinner tomorrow, please?

Dad: Yes, you can.

Diane: Thanks dad.

Brian: Could I watch the World Cup tomorrow, please?

Dad: No. Brian, you’ve got to learn a lot.

Brian: But dad, this isn’t fair.

Dad: Of course it isn’t fair.

Diane: Oh, I think it is fair, you’re writing nothing but bad marks.

Brian: Shut up, I hate you!

Dad: Shut up you two! Go to bed, now!

Diane: But I don’t have to go to the bed yet.

Dad: YOU TWO!

Brian: You suck.

Dad: You have to do what I tell you!

Scene Six:

Brian and Diane are alone in their room.

Brian: Dad is very silly.

Diane: No, dad is the best man in the world, but you are terrible.
And I’m the best.

Brian: No… you are just good at school, because you study every day, I haven’t got the time for this. I have a real life, but you haven’t got a real life.
You are a nerd.

Diane: Oh, I’m a nerd but you are an idiot.

Brian: Shut up, you silly nerd.

Diane: Oh, oh, oh, this wasn’t very clever. Dad!!!

Dad comes in.

Dad: What happened?

Diane: Brain has insulted me.

Brian: That isn’t true.

Dad: Don’t lie Brian!!! Enough for today. Now go to bed, you two!

Diane: Ok.

Brian: No!

Dad: Brian!

Brian: Ok. I’ll go to bed and sleep but only if I can watch the World Cup tomorrow!

Dad: Sleep or you’ll be sorry.

Brian: Ok Dad.

Scene Seven:

The next morning

Brian phones his friends

Brian: Hello, I can’t come today, because I have to learn. Ok, thank you, bye!

He dials again.

Brian: Hello guys! No, I am not fine. I can’t meet you today because I have to learn. Thank you very much. Ok, bye. Good luck!

Scene Eight:

Dad: Brian, stop! You have to study, don’t go outside.

Brian: No I will go out. I need new books for school.

Dad: Ok but you will be back by 6 o’clock. No, just joking. You’ll stay here.

Brian: But Dad, this isn’t fair.

Dad: Be quiet!

Brian: What do you mean?

Dad: Oh, you will see that soon.

Scene Nine:

Five minutes later.

Diane: Hi Dad, I am back from shopping.

Dad: Hi Diane, ok that‘s good. Brian, come on. You have to study for another
sixty minutes.

Brian: Dad, when I am ready, can I go out to meet friends, please?

Dad: No, but you could take another book to study.

Brian: But Dad, two hours a day are enough!

Dad: You learn for life and not for me or for the teacher. I don´t have to remind you of your bad marks, do I?

Brian: No Dad, you haven’t got to. But I can’t concentrate!

Dad: You will learn to do that, too!

Scene Ten:

Diane leaves the house.

Diane: Hi Amy, everything ok with you?

Amy: Hello Diane, yes it is. And what about you?

Diane: I am ok. But my brother gets on my nerves.

Amy: What does he do?

Diane: He does stupid things and he always writes bad marks. And…

Amy: Oh I understand. You hate him, don’t you?

Diane: Yes that’s right. And what’s going on in the gang?

Amy: Oh it’s all right.

Diane: Are looking for new members?

Amy: Do you want to join?

Diane: Yes, I would like to.

Amy: Hmm, I don’t know what the others would say, but I can ask them.

Scene Eleven:

Diane: Hi Dad, hi Brian, I am back.

Dad: Hi Diane… Brian, how much longer do you have to study?

Brian: Just 5 minutes

Dad: And what about your job? Have you found anything?

Brian: No, but I will have a job soon.

Dad: I hope it for you. Don’t forget it .You know what will happen if not … right?

Brian: Yes Dad, I know.

Diane: Dad can I meet my friend Amy in thirty minutes?

Dad: Yes Diane you can. And you, Brian, look for a job.

Brian: Ok Dad.

Scene Twelve:

Diane: Hi Amy, have you asked the others? Can I join?

Amy: Hi Diane you know that’s not so easy. Before you can join you must take a test.

Diane: What kind of a test do you mean?

Amy: You must show us that you are brave.

Diane: Ok but what do I have to do?

Amy: You have to steal your father’s wallet.

Diane: My father’s wallet?

Amy: It´s your choice: steal and join or don’t steal and don’t join.

Diane: Ok, ok Amy I will do it.

Amy: I knew that you would do it. It is better to do it when everybody is sleeping.
When you have got it, we will meet in front of the house, ok?

Diane. Ok Amy. Bye.

Amy: Bye and don’t forget it.

Diane: Of course I won’t forget it.

Scene Thirteen:

Diane:Hi Dad.

Dad: Hi Diane.

(Just then Brian comes home.)

Brian: Hi Dad, hi Diane.

Dad: Hi Brian, ok, let’s go to bed.

Scene Fourteen:

Everybody’s sleeping.

Diane: No one here? Good.

Diane is near her dad’s wallet.

Diane: I am not sure. Should I do that? Shouldn’t I do that? What if Dad finds out that I did it? I know. Brian has to take the blame.

Diane steals the wallet and goes outside. There Amy is waiting.

Amy: Hi Diane. Have you got the wallet?

Diane: Yes. Here it is.

Amy: Fine. I will ask the others. Now go to bed. Bye. Tomorrow we will meet
here after school. Ok?

Diane: Ok. Bye.

Scene Fifteen:

In the next morning Mr. Tyler is getting dressed. When he puts on his jacket, he can’t find his wallet.

Dad: Oh no!

Diane: What happened Dad?

Dad: Someone has stolen my wallet. How could it be? Who was it? I want
to hear answers!

Diane: Well I can imagine that it was Brian, because he has to give
you a lot of money, doesn’t he?

Dad: Yes it must be Brian. He is the thief!

Mr Tyler goes to Brian’s bedroom.

Dad: Brian! Tell me where you have put my wallet! I know that you are the thief!

Brian: But what wallet are you talking about? I don’t know what happened.

Dad: Don’t lie ! I will ask you just one more time: Where is my wallet?

Diane: Brian, why you don’t tell him where it is?

Brian: But I don’t know where it is because I don’t know what you want to tell me. I haven’t got a wallet.

Dad: You don’t want to say where it is, do you? If you don’t want to say it you will study four hours every day and you won’t do a job.

Brian: But Dad that’s not fair.

Dad: It is Brian, it is. And now go to school, you two!

Scene Fifteen:

At school during the break.

Diane: Hi Amy. Can I join now?

Amy: Hi. The others think that you can join. But not today and not here. You know that we must be sure that no one sees it, all right?

Diane: All right Amy. But where will we meet?

Amy: A good place is in front of your house, but when everybody is sleeping, ok?

Diane: Ok Amy I will be there.

Scene Sixteen:

In front of the house.

Diane: Amy, can I join now. There is no one here who can see us.

Amy: Wait and listen to me. I want to say thank you very much for your good help. The gang needed money and you gave us money.

Diane: I don´t understand. What do you mean?

Amy: I mean that you are very silly. No one would steal his father’s wallet. But you have done that.

Diane: I have just one question: Can I join now?

Amy: Ha, you are really very silly. My answer is: No!

Diane: Oh, you, I hate you!

Amy: You can hate me but I got what I wanted to have.

Diane: Oh, we will see who laughs last!

Scene seventeen:

The next morning in Mr. Tyler’s room.

Diane: Wake up Dad, I must tell you something important!

Dad: Good morning Diane, what’s going on?

Diane: I have stolen your wallet, because I wanted to join a gang, but they just used me. I hope you can forgive me.

Dad: Maybe, but tell me who has got my wallet?

Diane: Amy.

Dad: Hm, that’s a problem…

Brian: I could help if you want.

Dad: Ok, you two stop Amy after school. Then you two retrieve my wallet. If a teacher comes and Amy should lie, you two say that the wallet is mine and if she doesn´t believe you, you two say that the teacher can phone me. All right?

Diane & Brian: Ok Dad, we will do as you say.

Scene eighteen:

After school.

Diane: Hi Amy, what are you doing here so alone?

Amy: Hey, the stupid girl. What do you want?

Just at this moment Brian comes, snatches the handbag from Amy, with the wallet and runs away.

Amy: Hey, give me my handbag back, you thief!

Brian and Diane run home. Amy follows them.

Scene nineteen:

In front of the house Mr. Tyler is waiting. Then Brian and Diane appear and Amy, too.

Dad: Aha, you must be Amy. Then this is all just your fault, isn’t it?

Amy: Oh no, that’s just Diane’s fault. She is the thief, not I. She has stolen your wallet and my handbag, too.

Dad: Don´t lie. I know everything. I will report you to the police.

Amy: Oh no, please don´t. I will do all you want. But please don´t do that!

Dad: Never ever do this again and everything will be ok!

Amy: Ok, I will do what you say.

Amy leaves.

Dad: Let’s go home. Now everything is alright..

Diane: Not it isn´t. Without Brian it wouldn’t be ok. Can you forgive me, please?

Brian: Yes, I can. Now we will be a good team.

Diane: Yes, we will. Forever!

Our First Project Meeting

Velbert Map

The first project meeting will take place at Velbert, Germany. Teachers from Greece, Lithuania and Turkey will come. Our German colleagues prepared a full and interesting program: We'll have debates about the project and how we 'll organize our activities better. We 'll know the place, the people and the school there. And finally, we'll know each other better. There, in November 29th. More news will hear from us soon...
